Nancy Ann (Petty) Brown

May 20, 1946 - September 11, 2024

Nancy Ann Brown, our beloved “Maimee,” passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family, on September 11, 2024. She was born on May 20, 1946 in Oklahoma City, OK to her loving parents, Perrin and Gladys (Hawkins) Petty.

At NW Classen, a shy band boy, Bennie Brown, finally captured the heart of this orchestra queen and they remained in love for 57 years after their marriage in 1967. Nancy adored Bennie and Bennie remained at her side with unwavering loyalty and tender care until the end.

Nancy completed her education with a master’s degree and began her much-loved career as an Early Childhood educator, retiring from Windsor Hills Elementary after 30 years of teaching. She poured her life into her students and classroom. Nancy mentored many teachers, whom to this day, credit her with their knowledge and success in their own classrooms. Her commitment to education is a legacy she instilled in her family, nurturing a love of books and learning in her children and grandchildren.

Nancy’s steadfast faith was the cornerstone of her life and each morning she awoke to study God’s Word. His promises to her brought her peace and joy in difficult times. She deepened her knowledge of the scriptures through many years of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) where she made many dear friends.

Nancy was a longtime member of Northwest Baptist Church where she taught children’s Sunday School, ministered to the homebound, played handbells and sang in the choir. Church music was a highlight of her life.

There was no place Nancy would rather be than with Bennie or her family. Her home was always inviting, decorated for each season. She set a beautiful table and loved being in the kitchen working on her pies. Her sister and family always knew a fresh pound cake would be waiting for them, as well as Indian tacos, a fun dinner tradition. Nancy was an excellent seamstress and did impeccable embroidery and quilting.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Bennie; children, Amy and Phillip; her adoring granddaughters, Sophia, Anna, Camilla, Jasmine and Jailyn; sister, Donna Horton; nephews and nieces, Graham Horton and wife Lindsay, Holly Thompson and husband Philip, Lucy Horton and Cole Horton; aunt, Maxine Wood; many extended family members; and friends too numerous to count.

She was welcomed into heaven by her parents; her aunt, June Selby; brother-in-law, Doug Horton; and her cherished in-laws, Ed and Christine Brown. She is now reunited with her sweet baby grandson, Caleb; and all those she loved and missed.

A time of visitation at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service will be from 1:00-8:00pm on Sunday, September 15 with the family present to greet friends from 4:00-6:00pm. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at 10:00am, Monday, September 16 at Resurrection Memorial Chapel (at the east end of the cemetery).

Our family will be forever grateful for Sophia’s diligent and enduring care, alongside Bennie, which allowed Maimee to stay in her home.

Nancy’s presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit, her love and her devotion to Jesus will remain with us always. She is finally free and we take great comfort in knowing she is at peace and rejoicing in Heaven.

Updated Karl Power Obituary

Karl William Power III

July 21, 1946 – August 14, 2024

Karl W. Power III of Garland, TX passed away on August 14th, 2024, at the age of 78. He was born on July 21, 1946 in Oklahoma City, OK where he and his two brothers, Guy and Philip Power, attended school and lived with his mother Floy Mae and father Karl W. Power II.

He graduated in 1964 from North Classen High School, Oklahoma City, OK, and Oklahoma State University in 1975.

He worked for Social Security Administration for 38 years. He served in the US Air Force for 37 years, retiring with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He was proud of his country and for what it stood. He was finally "kicked out" of both because he loved them so much.

He was actively involved in Lakepoint Church of Rockwall attending both Sunday School and church for years. He was a season ticket holder of the Garland Performing Arts Theater and Orchestra and enjoyed numerous performances over the multiple years he had lived in Garland. He was a member of the Garland Citizens Police Academy Alumni as well as the Texas Department of Public Safety Citizens Police Academy. He enjoyed going to estate sales as well as thrifting to find his treasures. He collected vinyl albums of all kinds of music such as jazz, country western, swing, 40’s through the 70’s top 40 but his favorite was of course the Beach Boys. He loved College football; his OSU Cowboys were, of course, his favorite. As an avid reader, he would complete at least four to six books a month. He donated his books to Veterans retirement homes and anywhere he felt the need to add to their library. Karl had another pastime with the Antique Car Association of Dallas. He entered his 1962 Chevy Impala and won several awards.

He was preceded in death by his step-son Todd James Lee, June 6, 2003, his parents, Karl W. Power Jr. September 26, 2014 and Floy Mae Power September 8, 2020, and many other aunts and uncles.

Karl is survived by his daughter, Shayna Power Coffman and her husband, Brent Coffman of Denison, TX. His brother, Guy Power and wife, Diana of Port Isabel, TX. His brother, Philip Power and his wife Anne of Irving, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews and longtime companion Rebecca Harvey of Carrollton, TX.

Karl had so many loving qualities it would take a book to list them all. He was a giving individual to anyone he thought was in need therefore it showed in the charities he sponsored. He made peanut brittle for his friends and to those he felt were of service to him; whether you were a close friend, the postal person who delivered his mail, even to the trash collection person, deserved his special Christmas Brittle. It was an honor to receive it and will be missed. He worked many years at the North Texas Irish Festival setting up tables and chairs for the enjoyment of the attendees. He loved going to Canton’s First Monday to find new treasures and find tasty new treats. He loved to travel, cruises and road trips were his favorite. He wanted a t-shirt from every port, and he even climbed Diamond Head in Hawaii while in his 70’s. He never took a bad turn as he looked at it as a “Road Trip.” He liked old shows on TV with Perry Mason being his go to list at 10:30. Movies were another favorite and constantly had his DVR set to record, saying “the title sounded good.”

The family would like to thank neighbors Tom and Joni Thielen for their many meals after his operations, Mike and Kathy Jennings for watching out for his house and plants and to Rebecca Harvey for her constant love and compassion by taking him to doctor appointments, being with him during the surgeries and after-care of his surgeries and the many others for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in his final days.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at Lakepointe Church Chapel, room A114 in Rockwall, TX on Friday, November 15th, 2024 at 11am-3pm. There will be a Celebration of Life followed by food and fellowship with friends and family.

He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at the DFW National Cemetery in Arlington, TX, Monday November 25th at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in his honor to St. Jude, Shriners Children’s Hospitals, Wounded Warriors, or Tunnel to Towers.

Victoria Moran Nash, affectionately known as "Nana" by her adored grandchildren, was born July 15, 1946, in Ashland, Kentucky to Victor and Maxine Caudill. She passed away on July 10, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 77. Vicki moved to Oklahoma with her mother at the tender age of 13 after the death of her father. She graduated from Northwest Classen High School, attended Stephens College, and earned a degree in Social Work from the University of Oklahoma, where she was a member of Chi Omega.

Vicki was a loving and attentive mom to her 3 beloved children: Henry Thomas III (Trey), Megan Victoria and Erin Caroline. In addition to raising her young children, driving carpool, attending their sporting events and dance recitals, she spent her free time riding her adored horse, Gabriel. Vicki served her community as an active member of the Junior League of Oklahoma City where she was chairman of several committees.

Vicki went on to earn a Master's degree in Criminal Justice from Central State University. This began a Therapist career spanning over 30 years, earning certifications as a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (C.E.D.S) and Certified Alcoholism Counselor (C.A.C). Whether as a Therapist, colleague, or friend, Vicki had a gift for truly seeing others. The lives of countless addicts, their loved ones, and a myriad of other patients and professionals came to recognize her innate ability to create a safe place to grow, lean into their true selves, trust their instincts, take emotional risks, and authentically live their lives. She had a genuine knack for connecting with those around her, sharing stories and speaking genuinely in a firm, gentle manner, sometimes animated and always memorable for the sake of healing. Vicki had a passion for helping women in recovery and volunteered at several women’s prisons to foster the healing and recovery process for addicts desiring a better life. During her career, Vicki worked in private practice, at A Chance to Change, The Recovery Center, Heartland Counseling, and Cushing Valley Hope.

It was at Valley Hope that Vicki met Steve Nash. They became fast friends and were united in marriage in 2003. Steve and Vicki loved working side by side for most of their careers. They had a beautiful marriage and enjoyed hosting holidays in their home with family and friends and entertaining while watching OU sports. Vicki treasured celebrating family and friends and spoiling her many pets. Vicki and Steve made countless road trips to watch their grandchildren perform in various sports, cheer, dance and theater. She was their biggest cheerleader. Vicki also assisted Steve with the youth at First United Methodist.

Vicki is survived by her wonderful husband Steve; her adoring children Trey Moran (Apryl), Megan McMurphy (Curt) and Erin Moran. Vicki was classy, beautiful inside and out, intelligent, loving and creative. She had a keen eye for fashion and decorating, a passion for pretty things, a deep affection for animals and most importantly an infinite love for her family. Vicki loved with her whole heart, making every single milestone, holiday or "just because" a reason to celebrate. Vicki made everything more enjoyable and beautiful with her infectious smile. She had a unique way of making others feel loved, welcome and special. She never met a stranger and cherished every moment with family and friends, and a lifetime of patients (even if you didn’t know you were one).

Vicki’s extraordinary life will be celebrated at First United Methodist Church, 930 S Little Ave, Cushing, OK 74023 on Friday, July 26, 2024, at 10:30AM.

Shelia Marie Markham (Gibson)

October 14, 1946 - February 7, 2024

Sheila Marie Burke Gibson, born on October 14, 1946, in Oklahoma City to Sylvia and Jess Markham, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Nana was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend whose life touched many hearts.

Sheila graduated from Northwest Classen High School and continued at Oklahoma City University where she met her first husband, Gary Burke. Their union lasted 43 years and blessed them with three children - Kari Burke McNair, Ryan Patrick Burke, and Bryan Markham Burke. Sheila's devotion to her family was unwavering, evident in the tears, cheers, smiles, laughs, prayers, memories, and hugs they shared until the very end.

In 2009, Sheila found love again with Doug Gibson. In Doug she found her Christian soul mate. Her grace and beauty shone brightly throughout her life, earning her the title of Miss OCU (though we lovingly debate it may have turned into a runner up of Miss Oklahoma.) Sheila's aversion to legless reptiles was legendary, leading to a specific request for cremation and a celebration of her life.

Sheila's spirit was as strong as her golf swing, known to leave a mark (really a bruise) with each fierce stroke. A devout Christian since her baptism, she wore her faith proudly as a member of the Crossings congregation among many other small church groups. Sheila's compassion knew no bounds; she comforted many in times of need with her prayers, hugs and support.

Sheila's endearing habit of falling asleep during movies was a cherished trait passed down to her children and annoyed by their extended families. Her love reached beyond family to include her dog(s) and a wide circle of friends who will miss her dearly. She was so fond of her many groups through the years that included dear friends in bridge clubs, small congregational support teams, neighborhood dinner clubs, painting, golf, wine and workout groups.

In honoring Sheila's memory, let us celebrate a life lived with love, faith, and kindness. Though she may have left us early, her legacy of compassion and joy will forever remain in our hearts. Rest in peace, Sheila Marie Burke Gibson. Sheila is survived by her husband, Doug Gibson, her children Kari and Todd McNair, Kristine and Ryan Burke, Ashley and Bryan Burke and grandchildren Craig, Matt, Jonathan, Riley, Reed, Brandon and Ben; Doug’s children Melissa Graham and Michael McNellis; and their children Jack Henry, Cole, Alexandra, Cade, Blake; and Sheila’s sisters Marsha Gould and Sherry Stevens, all of whom she cherished so greatly.

Memorials may be made to The Crossings Alzheimer’s Support Group - a valued and much needed resource that should be shared by many and has been so helpful. Donations can be made directly to The Crossing Alzheimer’s Support Group, c/o Crossings Community Church 14600 N Portland Ave OKC 73134. Sheila’s celebration of life will be held at Crossings Community Church (the Chapel on Portland Ave) on April 13th from 10:00 am.

Philip Neil (Phil) Cooksey

12/15/1945 – 8/26/2023

Philip Neil “Phil” Cooksey was born in 1945 in Oklahoma City. He is the son of Neil Cooksey and Edith Berry. He had an older half-brother and a younger sister. Phil grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from Northwest Classen High School, where he was president of his senior class.

Phil was very popular in school, and he enjoyed participating in sports, especially wrestling; however, he kept a part time job as a cashier at a local independent grocery store. Keeping good grades and working did not leave him the time needed for high school sports.

Phil went on to Oklahoma State University where he pledged a fraternity, but he stayed dedicated to academic success. Barbara Bishop Hunt left the shackles of illness and sailed to heaven on December 20, 2022. Sitting by her side was her husband of 41 years, Lynn A. Hunt, and her sister, Bette Gay. Lynn cared for the love of his life day and night in their home in Edmond. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, George P. and Gloria (Wallace) Bishop. She is survived by her brother Robert W. (Dadie) Bishop, sister Bette Gay (Andrew) Carriger, and sister Bliss (Tony) Hayslip. She is survived by loving nieces, nephews and greatly valued friends, both old and new.Barbara's most treasured gifts were her children, Peter B. Holmes (Teresa-former) and Christi L. (Christopher) Roselle who she shared with her first husband, Bruce V. Holmes. She was so proud of the amazing adults and incredible father and mother they grew to be. She watched them guide her grandchildren, Elizabeth (Nicholas) Jesuitas, Parker, Madison (John) Gehling, Avery, Quinn and Spencer with such complete love. Barbara followed her grandchildren through each step of their lives with admiration and devotion. She was blessed with a great-granddaughter, Rio Jesuitas.

Family and Faith were Barbara's foundation. Living in Minnesota when her children were young and missing Oklahoma, she "adopted a grandmother" at a nursing home and took Peter and Christi to visit often. Barbara and her family became hosts to a Vietnamese mother and her three children. For three years Barbara gave up the coveted finished basement her family enjoyed during the long winters and shared her kitchen for meals. She spread joy to others back in Oklahoma and became a mother/daughter duo with Christi in a clown ministry.Barbara attended Northwest Classen High School followed by Oklahoma University. She was an avid lifelong learner who was a favorite team member during Trivial Pursuit games. Undeterred by illness and disability, Barbara attained a bachelor's degree at the University of Central Oklahoma. Time not in class was spent in bed recuperating. Unashamed of her condition she hosted study groups sitting on and around her bed. She continued to care for those from Vietnam, where her brother had served, aiding study group students.

Barbara used the knowledge gained from her studies to pursue her love of family by embarking on years of genealogy adventures. Lynn navigated their research travels all over the country and abroad. Barbara provided our family with many priceless stories.

Life bestowed the gift of challenges to Barbara, but she found such joy in so many different places and people. She taught us the power of love. We love our children so completely because of her. A good book is much appreciated. A movie or documentary is savored for its content and richness. A beautifully sung melody or skillfully played instrument has become sweeter in our ears. Hugs are tighter and laughter comes from the belly.

Though my sister passed away in December, she loved nature and children playing in the sunshine. She giggled as she watched from her front window the rabbits hopping, ducks waddling by the red flowers and birds playing in the bird bath. She played the memory of her children and grandchildren holding posters of loving messages, performing dances and frolicking in the yard filling it with laughter and song on Mother's Day during the Covid lockdown. It is selfish of me and makes no sense, but I just wanted one more summer with Barbara before I truly said, "... Here She Comes!"

Over the years, he taught English to Japanese students in Japan, architecture at Oklahoma State University, and math and technology to middle and high school students at Milwood, Jackson, and Lexington public schools.
Until his death, his happiest moments were with his children and friends. He had a passion for music, especially the blues. He could often be found at the Blue Door, sitting on the front row. If you knew Tom, you knew better than to call him on weekends after 1pm and interrupt the Weekend Blues show. He loved his dogs like they were his kids, often calling them, "the smartest and cutest of the children." Tom's sense of humor was like no other. He was a story-teller who would make you laugh until you cried. No one knew how to deliver a punchline better than Tom. He loved to eat, and would be thrilled if everyone had lunch at Leo's or Johnnie's in his honor. Save your hot link for dessert. He lit up a room when he walked in and lifted up those around him. Despite his complicated medical history, Tom remained positive, upbeat, and passionate about life until the very end.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents Frank Wayland and Wetoka Nadene Cloud, and his brothers James Wayland "Jim" Cloud and William J "Bill" Cloud. He is survived by his sons, Jay Cloud of Paoli, Mark Cloud of Oklahoma City, Jeff Cloud of Norman; daughter Annie Cloud and her spouse Jared "Woody" Conatser of Oklahoma City; granddaughters Halley and Mallory Cloud; sister Rita Kay Fabio of Southlake, Texas; niece Robyn Daniels of Southlake, Texas; and former wife and friend, Marie Cloud. He had too many friends to count but
remained especially close to Steve Asbury, Don Lacek, Kent Johnson, and Louis Balentine.
The Cloud family would like to thank all of the friends and family that have shared stories, offered condolences, and given support during this difficult time. We would specifically like to thank Dr. Kerry Owens, who gave our dad the best care, and whose dedication kept Dad going for many years; To Fresenius Dialysis Center, whose staff, Dad considered to be family after spending years with the facility; and the Lakes Care Center staff, who have cared for Dad like he was their own over the past year and a half.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date and safer time, when stories, not suitable for mixed company, will be told anyway. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to KGOU Public Broadcasting, the PBS Foundation, or an animal rescue of your choice.

Passing

William Ridgeway "Ridge" Hooks passed peacefully into eternal life on Sunday, April 5, 2020, in Tyler, TX, surrounded by his family. He was born in Waco, TX to Brian and Geraldine (Ridgeway) Hooks Dec. 22, 1945. He was welcomed by older brother, Wallace Brian "Wally" Hooks, who promoted Ridge's interest in sports.
Ridge's family moved back to Oklahoma City, where he attended school at Sequoyah Elementary, Taft Middle School, and graduated high school at Northwest Classen in 1964. He went on to study at Oklahoma Baptist University, Casper Junior College in Wyoming, and Oklahoma State University, where he was a walk-on on the Cowboys football team. In 1969, he proudly joined the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War as a Scout Dog Handler, attached to the 101st Airborne (Green Berets), with his K9 partner, Bliss, and finished his service as an MP at Fort Sill, OK.
After serving in the military, he returned to Oklahoma City to raise his two young sons, Bryan and David Hooks. He worked as an assistant manager for Piggly Wiggly grocery; he was a salesman for WJ Jones Brokerage; and he then began an amazing 25-year career with M&M/Mars. Ridge was affectionately known as "The Candy Man" among his family and friends because he always had a stash of candy with him and had a knack for producing just the right piece of chocolate at just the right time to brighten someone's day. He was a member of the elite Mars Tie Club, and in 1988, he was a recipient of the Vice President's Award for Excellence. He served as District Manager in Memphis, TN and Houston, TX, and ended his career with Mars as Customer Relations Manager, covering 32 states. Although his work in candy came to a close, his candy jar was always open. In May of 1988, he married the love of his life, Ann Stewart, and her two daughters, Holly and Wendy Stewart, joined their family. Ridge had a lifelong love of all sports. Baseball, basketball, football … you name it. He would have a statistic or "one to watch" to discuss! He was a huge OSU Cowboys fan and loved going to the games in Stillwater. After years of playing softball, he became involved with USSSA in Oklahoma in the 1970s. When he was appointed State Director, he took pride in developing free youth clinics, where every child received M&M candy, with stuffed animals given as prizes. Ridge was known for sending the most teams to National and World tournaments every year. After serving as National Church Director and Southern Region President with USSSA, he went on to work with NSA in Texas, which piqued his interest in senior softball. In 2000, he purchased Softball Players Association, which has become one of the largest and most respected senior softball associations in the country. He was instrumental in developing the National Senior Summit, an annual conference in which all the associations came together to work to improve the game of senior softball. He also continued to support and grow the National Senior Softball Hall of Fame. He still found the time to play softball over the years, playing for various teams, and winning many awards for his talent in the game, including a membership in the National Senior Softball Hall of Fame in 1997. Ridge developed lifelong friendships during his softball career and was well-respected and loved by many colleagues and teammates. Ridge was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He treasured the love of his wife, Ann, and he loved her with every fiber of his being. He especially loved and excelled in his role as "PawPaw" (AKA Grandpa). He was a fixture at his grandkids' scholastic and sporting events and was one they could always count on to "show up" for them.
Ridge had a mischievous and vivacious personality and always made those around him happier for being in his presence. He never shied away from donning a costume (ranging from the Easter Bunny to a reindeer to a gorilla, and anything in between) if it meant making someone smile. Ridge was a man of great character. He sought to glorify God in all areas of his life. The motto for SPA is, "To God Be The Glory," and he lived that every day. He was known for asking people he'd just met, "Do you know Jesus?" and, if they didn't, he would do what he could to introduce them to his Savior. He was a "Man's Man" who made it okay to openly be a Christian. When Ridge spent time with his family or friends, when he worked with his colleagues, or when he was hosting tournaments, you could always count on three things: his laughter, which could be heard from afar; his prayers, which could be felt for miles; and a smile that lit up the room and lifted the spirits of everyone around him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brian Hooks and Geraldine Hooks-Smith; and his brother, Wally Hooks. He is survived by his beautiful wife of 32 years, Ann Hooks; his children, Bryan Hooks (Kasey), David Hooks (Christy), Holly Hightower, Wendy Van Bemmel (T.J.), and Ginny Felton; his grandchildren, Brandon Hooks, Alexis Hooks, William Ethridge, Elijah Hooks, Noah Hooks, Whitney Ethridge, and Micah Hooks; his nieces, Debbie Carlin (Rick), and Tiffany McBride (Jerrald); nephew; Brian Hooks (Scott); and lastly, his cousins, Richard Holcomb, Linda Felton, Virginia McCombs (Don), and their families. Six feet apart and a maximum of 10 people just cannot do justice to the force of nature that was Ridge Hooks, so a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Ridge wasn't into flowers, but he was very into giving back to the community, so his family requests that, in lieu of bouquets, donations may be made in his honor to the Ridge Hooks Memorial Scholarship Fund. Pay at https://tinyurl.com/RIDGEHOOKS or checks can be sent directly to the following: Brandon Hooks, CPA at 13600 N. Blackwelder Ave., Apt. #174, Oklahoma City, OK 73134.
Godspeed, Ridge. We will miss you.

Passing

In the early hours of March 28, 2019, Rudolph Irvine Greer, Jr. (Rudy to most, but Rig to family) left this world surrounded by his family after battling lung cancer.  Rig was born December 4, 1945 in Victoria, Texas to Rudolph Irvine Greer, Sr. (“Ponto” to his grandchildren) and Dorothy Bernis Greer (“Babe” to most).

Rig was raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and graduated from Northwest Classen High School in 1964.  He then attended Oklahoma State University, where he received a Bachelor Arts in 1969, followed by a Master of Science in Economics in 1972.  Rig also served as an Airman 3C in the Air National Guard. In 1967, he married his college sweetheart, Nancy Kay Street, and they raised two daughters together.

Rig spent thirty-four years serving his alma mater, Oklahoma State University, working for seven different deans during his tenure, first as Assistant to the Dean of the College of Business Administration (later the Spears School of Business) and eventually as Director of Planning and Operations. He was integral in establishing the Tulsa Business Forum that helped increase OSU’s presence in the business community. Friends and family describe Rig as humble, loyal, reliable, and kind.  His colleagues knew him as a dependable, analytical problem-solver who was ready to jump in and help whenever and wherever needed.

He was a man who approached life with a quiet determination and who loved spending time with his family and friends.  In retirement, Rig and Nancy enjoyed cruising the world with friends, hosting numerous block parties at their home in Fairview, Texas, and participating in any activity they could do with their five grandchildren. Rig was passionate about his commitment to delivering Meals on Wheels through Allen Outreach, a service he was determined to keep providing even as he was undergoing chemotherapy and radiation.  He found pleasure in simple things like watching the birds in his yard, working Sudoku puzzles, and taking golf cart rides through the neighborhood with his steadfast dog, Jaz.

Rig is survived by his loving wife of nearly 53 years, Nancy Kay Greer; daughters Laura Gay Greer of Dallas; Courtney Greer Naismith and husband David of Chapel Hill, NC; grandchildren Alexander Greer Naismith, John Spencer Naismith, William Henry Naismith, Claire Harriet Naismith, and Elizabeth Kay Greer; brother Robert James Greer, Sr. and wife Lacey of Newport Coast, CA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. He was a good man who will be missed by all who knew him.

Dr. Robert Wallace King, Jr.

August 27, 1946 - November 27, 2018
Dr. Robert W. King, Jr., better known as “Rusty”, died on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, after a short illness. He was born on August 27, 1946, the son of Dr. Robert W. King, Sr. and Evalyn Lou Lowry King.
He was a long-time resident of Oklahoma City, attending Northwest Classen High School, graduating in the class of 1964. He attended Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island, and the University of Oklahoma. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine in 1971, and completed a Residency in Internal Medicine, also a Fellowship in Nephrology, at the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, VA.
He returned to Oklahoma City where he practiced nephrology at Associates in Internal Medicine at St. Anthony Hospital, the hospital in which he was born, and where he was also Director of Medical Education. He was a volunteer faculty member for the OU School of Medicine and was honored by the medical students by being one of three nominated for the prestigious Aesculapian Award for excellence in teaching. He was very proud the day he was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He was instrumental in bringing organ transplants to OKC, and helped develop the UNOS organ distribution system. He was also one of the original founders of LifeShare organ sharing network, which still operates in Oklahoma City. In 1998 he moved to New Orleans, LA, where he worked as a National Medical Director for United Healthcare.
He returned to Oklahoma City in 2007, where he focused his skills and talents on those in need. His passion for service included volunteering on the board of the Bridge House recovery center in New Orleans, volunteering his medical services at the Little Flower Clinic in Oklahoma City and numerous other civic activities.
From a personal perspective, Rusty was a voracious reader and avid writer of many books including “Lord”, “Fishing with John”, and the very humorous “Floating Fauna.” He was a remarkable historian who delved deeply into tracing his family’s genealogy, tracing it back to the beginning of time. He had an immense passion for music, including writing and performing. His music has been immortalized in a recording which in typical humorous fashion he entitled “Live from the Laundry Room”. His outdoor passions included golf and fishing, especially in the bayou marsh waters of Lafitte, Louisiana.
His sometimes quiet personality was complimented by his astounding intellect, wonderful sense of humor, and unwavering love for others. There was no end to his clever and witty quips. He was often referred to as “The smartest person I have ever met”, a true Cowboy, a hero to many, extremely honest with integrity like no other, and he would often use a funny-dry “one-liner” to make a point. He was incredibly deep thinking, but often would make smart decisions in a “blink of an eye.”
Overall, he will be remembered as a wonderful teacher, mentor, friend, father, and husband. He shared a deeply personal letter with his daughters that conveyed his sentiments on life, including:
“Sip the nectar of life - don’t gulp it down”…”Treat all people with dignity”…”Form your base values and refuse to compromise them”…”Innovation is born from curiosity”…and “Love is not something you do. Love is something that happens when the environment is ripe. It is like a flower. You cannot make a flower bloom, but you can prevent it from blooming if you don’t create the right environment. Above all, love is what makes life good. Love of another person, love of pets, love of family and friends. Always strive to create the right environment for love to blossom and persist. It is good to be loved by others. It is even better to be able to love others. -Dad”
He was steadfastly true to his values, which he held in the highest regard. His mantra for life and core values are described excellently in the following quote from the book “Civilization”:
“ I hold a number of beliefs that have been repudiated by the liveliest intellects of our time. I believe that order is better than chaos, creation better than destruction. I prefer gentleness to violence, forgiveness to vendetta. On the whole I think that knowledge is preferable to ignorance, and I am sure that human sympathy is more valuable than ideology. I believe that in spite of the recent triumphs of science, men haven't changed much in the last two thousand years; and in consequence we must still try to learn from history. History is ourselves. I also hold one or two beliefs that are more difficult to put shortly. For example, I believe in courtesy, the ritual by which we avoid hurting other people's feelings by satisfying our own egos. And I think we should remember that we are part of a great whole. All living things are our brothers and sisters. Above all, I believe in the God-given genius of certain individuals, and I value a society that makes their existence possible.”― Kenneth Clark, Civilisation
Rusty was preceded in death by his parents, his youngest sister, Lisa King Brashear. Survivors include his wife of almost forty years, Jeanne Ann King, M.D., his daughters, Anna King Clark and her husband Bob Clark, Betsy Lowry King, and Emyay Emily Margaret King. Also surviving are his sisters, Sheryl King Jacobs and her husband Robert, Rebecca Schneider and her husband Kevin Gilliland.
Rusty King was a truly amazing husband, Dad, doctor, teacher, writer, fisherman, alligator hunter, he helped so many in their career paths, and was so very proud of “his girls.”
He will be loved and remembered forever for all the love he gave to those around him in his life.
For those who would like to celebrate his life, Memorial Services will be held Monday, December 3rd at 10am at All Souls Episcopal Church at 6400 N Pennsylvania Ave, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73116.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to:

Frederick "Fred" Ray Jolliff

October 1, 1945 - November 24, 2017

Frederick Ray Jolliff passed away peacefully on Nov. 24, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was born Oct. 1, 1945, to Raymond Carl "Jolly" Jolliff and Elaine (Odom) Jolliff in Oklahoma City.

Fred graduated from Northwest Classen High School in 1964.  Upon graduation Fred joined the U.S. Navy to become a SeaBee in the Engineering Division. He served two tours in Vietnam and one to Antarctica from 1966-1968.  He proudly served on the MCB-85 Board of Directors the last several years and was very proud of his service to his country

After leaving the Navy, he worked at M.R.&J. Brokerage, a candy brokerage, alongside his father until he went to work for Southern Nazarene University Maintenance in 1989; he remained there until 2015. Upon retirement, he was bestowed a “Ornery” Degree of Doctor of Maintenance Arts.

In his early years Fred enjoyed hunting and going to the lake.  Fred’s love for the outdoors is rooted in memories of summers on the family farm with cousins, Lynn and Larry Odom, and lifetime friend, Randy Thomas.  He loved to play golf (even though his ball never landed on the fairway), visiting Las Vegas, and spending time with family and friends.  He was a hard worker, treated people with respect, and met everyone with a smile on his face. Fred never met a stranger; he would strike up a conversation with just about anyone.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Carl Jolliff.  Fred is survived by his mother, Elaine Jolliff; wife, Lavonna Jolliff; his two daughters, Emily and husband Tim Acton, and Erica and husband Dan Blystone.  He loved his bonus children just as much: John Moore and wife Ree, David Moore, and Dona Dunovant. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Luke and Jared Blystone, Marshall and Kendall Dunovant, David Anthony and Matthew Moore and Lauren Landeros; and great-grandchildren, Bella and Cesar Landeros, Lakai and Ellé Moore.

Viewing will be Tuesday, November 28th at Mercer-Adams, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany.  Family will be present from 5-7 p.m.  Funeral service will be Wednesday, November 29th at 2:00 p.m. at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, 6789 N.W. 39th Expressway, Bethany.  Graveside service will follow at Bethany Cemetery, NW 63rd and Rockwell.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Angel Fund at Southern Nazarene University.
